Monument to architect Alexei Beketov was opened in Kharkiv in 2008 – it is set near the University of Civil Engineering and Architecture on the Sumska street. The history of this monument, like most of them in our city, is not easy – the original sketch of the the sculptor Seyfaddin Gurbanov initially wasn’t accepted and agreed any of the municipal authorities and Arts Council. But the sculptor refused to change his idea, and eventually got his way – the monument looks as it was thought.
Alexey Beketov is one of the most creative Kharkiv architects of late 19th – early 20th century, its buildings in classical style are important factors in creating the city image.
