Monument to the 50th parallel symbolizes the fact that Kharkiv is the largest city in the world, located on the 50th parallel. The memorial sign was installed in Shevchenko garden right on the line of the 50th parallel of north latitude, and was opened in October 2010. One of the elements is signs with names of different cities and an indication of distance to them. In the original version of the monument in one of the signs was an error – the distance to the North Pole was accidentally reduced with 500 km, in the end sign was cut out and the inaccuracy has become a task for students participating in the Geography Olympics.
