Kharkiv Historical Museum was founded as Grigorii Skovoroda Museum of Slobіdska Ukraine in the name. It happened in 1920 thanks to the initiative of the Kharkiv’s provincial committee of Art headed by its chairmen Nikolai Sumtsov. The collection of the museum incorporated several earlier collections, including the collection of the City Art Museum, the collection of the Historical-Philological Society, the Museum Foundation. In addition to these were nationalized private collections and new funds from the expeditions of the museum staff.
Today the museum exposition is divided into four divisions – the primitive society, feudalism, capitalism and the Soviet era. Here are stored artifacts of the city’s history, archaeology, numismatics, ethnography. Separate interest is caused by collection of weapons.
Entry – 5 hrvnas, 20 hryvnas with guide.
