The monument in the form of a bronze ball located in the alley Shevchenko Park, leading from the Universitet station to Taras Shevchenko monument, and this place was not selected by a chance – earlier in the stands surrounding the monument were hung the “Soviet Sport” newspapers, where fans were gathering to discuss the latest news, matches, players. To underline the tradition of this place, before the Moscow Olympics in 1980 here was established architectural composition with the emblem of games. In the 90s, with the decline of sports life at this place declined too, and with the coming of 2000s the city authorities decided to resurrect it. In August 24, 2001, the day of the 10th anniversary of Ukrainian independence here, on the place received by the time the name of Sport Glory Alley, was opened monument to a soccer ball. In the opening ceremony took part legendary footballer Oleg Blokhin, a former player of Dynamo Kiev, the current coach of the national team of Ukraine.
